Minamiyama Mountain is a Satoyama located in Western Tokyo, Japan. This much loved 87 hectares woodland is the biggest Satoyama (closest woodland to human habitat sustained by farmers for centuries) in Tokyo which enjoys wide range of biodiversity. Ony 30 minutes by train from the center of Tokyo, Minamiyama is suitable for hiking and easy to reach. More than 100 Raccoons, Northan Goshawks, Tokyo Salamanders enjoy their habitat.See the MAP

2009年6月、「石原都知事が環境五輪を掲げつつ、里山破壊をしている」ことや、「多くの人が南山を残してほしいと思っている」ことを伝えるため、ポール・コールマン氏(国連ピースメッセンジャーイニシアチブ大使)が国際オリンピック委員会(IOC)へ手紙を手渡しに行きました。その経緯をレポートします。

2009年5月27日、コールマン氏は都知事へ手紙を書き、「海の森を作るなら、南山も残した方がオリンピック招致に有利ではないですか」と都知事に提案しました。
Coleman wrote a letter to Governor Ishihara stating that he should preserve Minamiyama Woodland while planting a 'Sea Forest' on the gabbage dump created in Tokyo Bay, rather than destroying it.
③国際オリンピック委員会(IOC)へ手紙を手渡し
記者会見を受け、ポール・コールマン氏はスイスのローザンヌにあるIOC本部へ出向き、6月18日、石原都知事の動画と手紙などを直接手渡しました。
